Support the Green Team

Please help support the initiative of the Green Team and WNS by donating at the link below or calling the office.

The CST Green Team, in coordination with staff and the Wednesday Night School students, is working towards a disposable-free Kiddush! Beginning around Tu B’Shevat (February 2020) our social hall will be stocked with a set of new plates and bowls for use at our famous Shabbat lunches. The new dinnerware will be much lighter and more readily replaceable than the existing dairy china, which will still be used for more formal events. The goal with this new initiative is to reduce our waste stream and focus on reuse. We will also be ending the regular use of plastic utensils and switch to the silverware we already have.

Won’t you help set in motion this simple first step of greening the shul?

The initial investment in the new dinner ware is $500. Each new place setting (dinner plate, salad plate and bowl) costs just $2.37, a small price to pay when you consider the money saved over time by spending less on disposables, not to mention the reduction in waste.

We are so grateful for your generosity and your investment in Tikkun Olam at Shaarie Torah!

About the Green Team

Are you passionate about sustainability? Wanting to see more eco-friendly waste streams at the synagogue? We are always looking for cooperative, willing volunteers to join the Shaarie Torah “Green Team!” We explore sustainability initiatives for the congregation.

Projects Include: researching/coordinating purchasing of reusable or compostable lunch or dinner ware, sourcing recycling bins for the office and classrooms and perhaps starting a Shaarie Torah demo garden.

Your imaginative and practical suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you’d like to participate, email Benjamin Cutler at
