Chevre (friends), it’s been a long year. We’ve all dealt with many stressors – the economy, high gas prices, wars, terrorism, bills, illnesses, arguments, difficult situations and people, etc., etc. Many days it feels I go from crises to crises. Before you become alarmed, no – this is not a political endorsement! Rather, it’s the last bulletin issue for the calendar year and we thought we would address another topic, one that seems to be pushed aside all too often – the importance of laughter. Is laughter a Jewish tenant? Is laughter permitted, even encouraged, in the Tanakh (Hebrew bible)? Of course it is! In fact, not only is laughter mentioned several times in the Tanakh, but we are REQUIRED to be merry on occasions such as Shabbat, weddings, some holidays such as Purim and Lag B’Omer… Download PDF Bulletin
